Security Best Practices and Technology

Patented Technology to Keep You Safe

Merchants, banks, and consumers alike—your security is our business. Our patented technology works with proven online banking systems to keep funds safe and data private throughout the entire online shopping experience.

Our Technology

  • Mazooma leverages all the technology of proven online banking systems that process $ trillions each day. We build on this solid foundation by adding an extra layer of security to keep shoppers safe. And since banks constantly update their platforms to adopt the latest security measures, so too is Mazooma armed and up to date.
  • Mazooma transmits personal and financial information securely using the same encryption technology used by the banks. This prevents potential hackers from intercepting a data conversation.
  • Our servers are hosted in a restricted access, state-of-the-art data center protected with biometric palm scanners and 24/7 security guards.
  • We apply bank-level data security standards, including encryption, auditing, logging, backups, and safe-guarding of data.
  • To ensure the integrity of sensitive banking information, we don’t store, log, or share banking User IDs, passwords, or the answers to banking security questions. All of this information stays between the shopper and the bank.
  • The McAfee SECURE site certification service scans and audits our site daily for more than 10,000 of the latest hacker vulnerabilities and threats. In addition to daily scanning, our site earns the McAfee SECURE TrustMark and undergoes regular audits for unintended links to malicious websites and exploitive code.
  • All Mazooma transaction pages are certified by VeriSign, the leading site security certification firm. The VeriSign Trust™ Seal means that consumers can browse and buy with confidence, knowing that the site is certified by the global leader in online trust.

Security Best Practices for Shoppers

Your participation is vital in ensuring the safety of your financial information. We suggest you take the following steps to protect your Mazooma account:

  • • Make sure your computer and browser software are up to date with the latest security updates.

    • Install and maintain antivirus and anti-spyware software, and use personal firewalls.

    • Be alert to the threats posed by malicious software (malware), which can damage your system, or secretly
      record keystrokes.

    • Change your Mazooma and banking passwords periodically; use unique passwords for each type of account.

    • Check your computer manufacturer’s website for further security tips.

  • • Never share your Mazooma or online banking login IDs and passwords with anyone.

    • Always log off Mazooma and close your browser after completing any Mazooma activity.

    • Be careful when using unfamiliar computers such as those in Internet cafés and libraries; always ensure
that you have fully logged out when using these computers.

  • • Do not reply to emails asking for personal or financial information unless you are able to verify that the target
site listed in the email is secure (as indicated by the SSL padlock or other means).

    • Never enter personal information into a form within an email or a pop-up on a website.

    • Do not open emails from unknown senders and be especially cautious with attachments sent from
      unrecognized sources.

  • Here’s how we help safeguard shoppers’ information against identity theft:

    • When shoppers choose Mazooma, they need to correctly answer their bank’s predetermined online banking
security question. This helps to ensure that it’s actually them signing in to their bank account.

    • To use Mazooma, shoppers don’t provide any financial information, card numbers, or login information to
       the online merchant.

    • Mazooma’s transaction pages are secured by VeriSign’s Extended Validation (EV) SSL Certificate, security
technology that was created specifically to combat Internet fraud. When shoppers use the latest versions of
browsers like Internet Explorer or Firefox to view a site secured by an EV SSL Certificate, they’ll see
visual cues indicating that the site is secure. For example, in Internet Explorer 7 they’ll see a green
address bar. When they click it, the name of the organization listed in the certificate and the certificate's
      security vendor appear.

    • Mazooma does not store or share sensitive banking information—in fact, not even Mazooma employees have
      access to this information.

  • • Mazooma will never request your Login ID or password in an unsolicited email communication. If you receive
such a request, contact Mazooma’s Security department: security@mazooma.com

    • Log in to your Mazooma account regularly to monitor your transaction history.

    • Review your bank statements regularly and report unauthorized activity immediately; always protect your
      banking login information.

  • Phishing is the illegal attempt to procure personal or financial information, including account numbers, passwords and Social Security numbers, from unsuspecting consumers through email or fraudulent Web sites.

The most frequent phishing attacks appear as emails disguised as official correspondence from a reputable financial institution or company, asking the recipient to update their account information by clicking on a link that goes to a fraudulent web site.
  • • Beware of emails that urgently request your immediate action on an account-related matter.

    • Beware of unsolicited emails from users claiming to represent a legitimate company, especially if they contain
attachments. Such attachments often contain viruses and should never be opened.

    • For further information, please see Antiphishing.org or the FTC Identity Theft info page.
